FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about working with Mike and what to do when an insurance claim goes wrong.

Can Michael Sapourn help with hurricane or windstorm insurance claims?

Yes. Mr. Sapourn represents policyholders with hurricane, windstorm and other catastrophic property damage claims, and he spent seven years as a licensed Florida Public Adjuster before focusing on his law practice.

What should I do if my insurance company denies my claim?

Get a copy of your full policy and the written denial, keep every photo, estimate and letter, and avoid signing releases you do not understand. Then call the office. Mr. Sapourn will review the policy and the denial, explain your options, and negotiate or litigate on your behalf if the claim is worth pursuing.

Does Michael Sapourn work with businesses as well as individuals?

Yes. He represents homeowners, condominium owners, business owners and commercial property owners in disputes with their insurance companies and agents.

What types of insurance cases does Michael Sapourn handle?

Coverage disputes, bad faith and unfair claims practices, homeowners, hurricane, sinkhole, flood, condominium and commercial property claims, boat and yacht claims, premises liability, insurance agent errors and omissions, and unsuitable annuity or life insurance sales.

Why hire a lawyer who used to run an insurance agency?

Mr. Sapourn spent 23 years running a large insurance agency, holds the CIC and CRM designations, and worked as a Florida Public Adjuster. He reads policies, applications and claim files the way the industry does, which helps him spot coverage arguments and errors that are easy to miss.

Is the initial consultation free?

Yes. The first consultation about your insurance problem is free. Call (321) 537-3175 or send the short form on the contact page.

Do you only work in Melbourne?

The office is in Melbourne, in Brevard County, and Mr. Sapourn works with clients across Florida, including Melbourne Beach, Indialantic, Viera, Satellite Beach, Merritt Island, Cocoa Beach and Orlando. His expert witness work covers federal and state courts nationwide.

How soon should I call after a claim problem?

As early as possible. Florida has strict and recently changed deadlines for reporting property claims, reopening them and filing suit, and evidence is easier to preserve early. A prompt call keeps your options open.

My insurance agent did not get me the coverage I asked for. Can you help?

Possibly. If an agent failed to procure the coverage you requested, or assumed the duty to advise you and did it poorly, the agent may be responsible for the uncovered loss. Mr. Sapourn has testified on the insurance agent standard of care in many cases and can evaluate yours.

I am an attorney. Can I retain Mr. Sapourn as an expert witness?

Yes. He is retained by both plaintiff and defense counsel for opinion reports, affidavits, depositions and trial testimony on agent standard of care, claims handling, bad faith practices and policy interpretation. Request his CV and Rule 26 disclosure from the expert witness page.
